Built New Computer With Windows 7 - Experiencing Same Data Transfer Issues
I built a new computer with Windows 7, Premium Home Edition, OEM version 64 Bit.
I am using an Intel Core I7 CPU and have 8 GB of dual core memory so speed and memory is not the issue.
I have a Hitachi 1 TB internal hard drive and I have tried two different
external hard drives trying to transfer my essential data files.
The data transfer rate is the pits.
It took me over 24 hours to move my essential data files from my Maxtor 500 GB external hard drive(1.39 GB) to my internal hard drive.
I had purchased a Western
Digital 1.5 TB external hard drive so I changed over and when Windows notified me that it wanted to back up my files, it got to 12% and hung up.
I suspect that Windows 7 has issues based on the comments I have read.
My old computer with an AMD 2700+ CPU and
only 1 GB memory was fast.
I am running just about the same software applications I had installed on my Windows XP system with the exception of the ones Win 7 would not accept.
I have Norton 360 for my anti virus and firewall security.
I have to say I am not impressed with Win 7 and
apparently a lot of other people share my concerns.
Any recommendations on how to improve my data transfer speed?

Don't Download Malware
Where are you getting the download?
There are malicious people who download valid copies of a popular download, modify the file with malicious software, and then upload the file with the same name. Make sure you are downloading from the developer's web page or a reputable company.
Don't install download manager
Many sites suggest or require you to install an installer or a download manager before allowing you to download a program you may be interested in downloading. These tools almost always cause your computer more problems and may even have malware or other spyware. Avoid any site claiming anything must be installed first before you can continue with your download.
Avoid advertisements on download pages
To help make money and pay for the bandwidth costs of supplying free the software, the final download page may have ads. Watch out for anything that looks like advertisements on the download page. Many advertisers try to trick viewers into clicking an ad with phrases like "Download Now", "Start Download", or "Continue" and that ad may open a separate download.
Cancel or deny any automatic download
Some sites may automatically try start a download or give the appearance that something needs to be installed or updated before the site or video can be seen. Never accept or install anything from any site unless you know what is downloading.
