Add 'string of text' to data from column that has 8000 rows then auto populate a new column with combined string of text + number from original column.
Request From a very humble EXCEL rookie:
I am trying to create URLs for use in ArcMap to be used as hyperlinks that pull pictures from an attribute tables file. This will allow users to click on a Structure point on map and view the image of the structure.
I need to use a string of text that points
to my C drive and tack it on to each row of the attribute column of photo ID numbers and place this combined string of text and numbers into it's own column. Hyperlink Example: C:\PROJECTSFILE\COUNTY\DATA\PHOTOS\PHOTO_ID_NUMBER\0001.jpeg
I have my tables set up and ready to go but lack the know how to create the correct formula syntax to perform this function. The formula I am hoping for will take the string "C:\PROJECTSFILE\COUNTY\DATA\PHOTOS\PHOTO_ID_NUMBER\" and add it to every photo
id number from the PHOTO_ID_NUMBER column (there are over 8000 of them!) and place this whole text string into the 'HYPER_LINK' column that I have created in the table. I have seen this done in the past but can't remember how to do it.
I could do this manually
but it will take hours.
I have made numerous attempts at this and all have been failures. In EXCEL 2003 I used the CALCULATE VALUES option to create formulas, but in 2007 version I am utterly lost. Any help on this is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Keys to the Problem Add 'string of text' to data from column that has 8000 rows then auto populate a new column with combined string of text + number from original column.
Say in column A we have a list of files:
All the files are in the same folder.
In B1 enter:
=HYPERLINK("file:///C:\TestFolder\" & A1) and copy down.
This will make a nice table of "click-able" hyperlinks in column B.
Adjust the folder location to suite your structure.
