Using Acer Laptop Aspire 5738Z with Vista Home Premium when I Upgraded to Windows 7 there was a drastic reduction in speed, Also had a repeated lack of response to file commmands such as save or print.

Windows 7 Is Slow

1) Unplug any peripherals such as printers, external drives, microphone, webcams etc.
2) Make sure your BIOS and drivers are up to date.
Updating the BIOS can be risky, only do this if nothing else works.

For this right click on "Computer" and select "Properties" from the right click menu.

Then Under "Performance" click "Settings".

Now untick any of the options you don't want to use (some options will disable Aero).

Restart the computer.
